Message from the MGCC President 5MESSAGES I would first like to thank the Board for the great honour of my appointment as the President for the 2016 2017 term It has been a good start in 2016 with the Malaysian German Chamber of Commerce and Industry joining the EUMCCI as one of the 11 bilateral chambers after an absence of approx 2 years Being the largest bilateral European Chamber in EUMCCI the chamber will undoubtedly play an important role in its various activities I am pleased to note that the Chamber is already actively involved in various sectors of the SEBSEAM project support of European SME Business in South East Asia It is also worth noting that Germany has been Malaysia s major trading partner among the European community and a main contributor of Foreign Direct Investment to Malaysia This is also an important year for the Chamber as we celebrate 25 years since it was founded in 1991 It is also timely to note that as a result of steady expansion over the years the Chamber will be moving to its new modern premises in the beginning of 2017 With the uncertainty for world trade caused by the Brexit vote the next few years will present considerable challenges to the Chamber and its members as the effects begin to be felt in various parts of the world Against this prevailing uncertainty it is comforting to note that the ASEAN region still remains an area of great business opportunities for German companies In this regard Malaysia s strategic location also makes it an ideal gateway to ASEAN West Asia and China The Chamber will strive harder this year to maintain the number of visits made by German trade delegations Although the membership number continues to be stable I will be focusing on increasing the membership of the Chamber Against the backdrop of uncertainty in the world economy I will also be focusing on how to bring members to be more closely connected to each other as well as to take advantage of the various opportunities through participation in trade delegations and networking activities of the Chamber Hopefully this will foster better exchange of information and ideas among our members which is so important for the success of any business I look forward to catching up with you in the coming months at our Sundowner and other events PRESIDENT Dato Robert Teo Keng Tuan Managing Partner RSM Malaysia
