EDITORIAL BOARD OF DIRECTORS DATO ROBERT TEO KENG TUAN President 2015 2017 P KANDIAH Treasurer THOMAS ZIMMERLE Vice President DANIEL BERNBECK Executive Director DATUK MUHAMMAD FEISOL HJ HASSAN FRANCIS LEE HENNING FELIX NIESMANN HARTMUT MUELLER IR LEE SWEE ENG LIM KHIANG HUA MARTIN METZGER PETER LENHARDT PHILIPP KERSTING WENDY LAU WOLFGANG LAABS 4 Dear Members and Readers 25 years since our establishment to some of you might not be sound impressive I know that some of our member companies have been in this market for longer some more than a century But for a non profit organization mainly focused on networking its members providing market entry and other consultation services we consider ourselves a well established matured and reputable organization With strong support from the German Embassy LATE YBHG TAN SRI DATO G S GILL Daniel Bernbeck Executive Director Malaysian German Chamber of Commerce and Industry co funded by the Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs of the then recently re united Germany the backing of a few dozens German business people in Malaysia at that time mainly represented by the Malaysian German Business Group and last but not least the strategic decision by the Association of the German Chambers of Industry and Commerce DIHK in Berlin the Malaysian German Chamber of Commerce and Industry locally known as MGCC was founded in 1991 In those days Malaysia was grouped as one of the so called Tiger Cub Economies and most of the relevant indicators were showing strong positive trends for Malaysia and the region The Asian Financial Crisis was still a few years away and German investors heading for this country needed a toehold in Kuala Lumpur to start their enterprises Since then and through all kinds of challenges or cyclical ups and downs our membership base as well as our network has grown significantly MGCC started off with about 100 members and 10 employees and today we have more than 400 members and provide services through 35 motivated and qualified staff This makes us the strongest national European Chamber in Malaysia and capacitates us to offer a broad range of professional expertise Without the continuous support of our partners members and employees all of this would not have been possible Thus our main sentiment today is gratitude and pride for all the achievements Looking forward we are confident to stay as the main source of advice and information for our main target group the German SMEs venturing into this region and with your unwavering support and trust we will surely stay your partner of choice for the next 25 years
