INTERVIEWINTERVIEW Quarry Mining RAK LLC has its Head Office in Ras Al Khaimah and is active in the design fabrication and installation of Industrial plants like Crushing Screening plants Bulk material processing plants but also Conveyor systems and port Handling equipment They mainly cover the markets of UAE KSA and Oman but are active in their field in the whole MEnA Region Shareholders are the Government of Ras Al Khaimah and German Investors with experience in bulk handling and experience in the Middle East for over 38 years All products are designed by them according to European Standard in their local Engineering Department and all steel fabrication is executed in the modern and well equipped factory based on the manufacturing drawings also several other German companies especially my colleague Andreas Hangarter of German Engineering LLC whom I proudly wish to mention decided to be a part of the AHK team Together we established the RAK German Spring Festival the Piano Concert and several other events and are now working hard on our new project German Center Ras Al Khaimah which we plan to build with the help of the Government of Ras Al Khaimah in 2014 2015 The German Center in Ras Al Khaimah will offer offices and facilities for AHK and the German Consulate There will be a Majlis meeting rooms a German coffee shop German bakery several offices for German companies and most importantly a training centre for young Emirati and other Nationals It is also planned that all our cultural activities in the future will be held in our German Center in Ras Al Khaimah how Do yoU SEE ThE FUTUrE oF yoUr comPaNy I am quite convinced about our future Our forefathers have told us that we have to earn our wealth year by year again and again And this principle we live in our Company as we never reach instead year by year we have to defend our right to exist To sustain we have to provide intelligent solutions for our market which we try hard to do But most important is the fact that we have built our company on solid soil The Government of Ras Al Khaimah holds 51 of our shares while the other 49 is held by the Swabian clan my family and Michael Schmidt And personally I don t really believe in 100 ownership I feel it is far better to share from the beginning in a fair way with our host country We have invested all our profits back into our business We started 8 years ago with one container and in the meantime almost 20 000 square meters of the land granted by Government of Ras Al Khaimah are equipped with a modern factory accommodation for all of our approx 140 company members and over 500 sqm of office space But we only finance part of our turnover not our investments We decided to take a unique way as we built our home next to the company premises All of us including myself are living together right at the entrance to the biggest quarry of the Middle East And we made it as attractive as possible for all of us our engineers welders mechanics and all other colleagues to stay with us and see their future with us Having been for only 12 years in the UAE we are proud to have over a dozen staff loyal to our company for over 10 years Another point to be mentioned is that we became so competitive and successful in our field of designing and building industrial plants for quarry operations that our main business partner from Germany stopped building these plants themselves They still provide us with the key components representing 30 40 of the total investment This offers us a great chance to step into this vacuum not only for UAE KSA but for the ME region and Africa Last year we implemented ISO 9001 and in March 2014 we had the final audit for ISO 14001 and we are living it Another important step was the introduction of new ERP software which is covering all departments of our companies Do yoU haVE oThEr acTIVITIES comPaNIES Last year we established our own purchase office in Germany QUARRY MINING Vertriebs GmbH 88400 Biberach which is operated by my daughter Nadeen This is a vital benefit to source parts and handle export of material from Europe particularly Germany and to facilitate Letter of Credits to the MENA region At the same time we also formed NILOS ARABIA LLC a company covering all services around conveyor belts This company is managed solely by my son Michael It is his baby and his challenge to create something on his own And recently we founded QUARRY MINING KSA Ltd in Riyadh to support and cover the important market of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia With this new company we want to increase our presence in this market In all our companies we have the same ownership and as a matter of principle there are no other involvements or activities FINaLLy whaT haVE BEEN aND arE yoUr maIN moTIVES Well first of all whatever we do should fill us with joy and satisfaction right I like the old saying It is immoral to get tired from anything else than working while I must admit that there are of course other greater things than work But I am driven by the will to leave a tiny part of our world a little bit of a better place than we found it Finally I would like to thank my great team my family for
