INSIDE AHKINSIDE AHK sieMens welCoMes the energy CoMMittee Meeting in its new heAdqUArter T he Energy committee of the German Emirati Joint Council for Industry and Commerce AHK UAE followed the invitation of its member Siemens to host the first annual meeting of the Energy Committee in the new Siemens Headquarter in Masdar City The meeting was moderated by the Chairman of the AHK Energy Committee Prof Dr Bremeier General Manager Wintershall Middle East GmbH on the 5th of March 2014 Mr Dietmar Siersdorfer CEO of Siemens in the Middle East and UAE and Siemens Energy in the Middle East gave the members of the Committee an overview of the Siemens activities and the variety of products and energy solutions In the so called Energy Age Siemens focuses on the implementation of innovative technologies facilitating a viable use of resources In particular Siemens provides creative and sustainable solutions to address current global challenges such as globalization urbanization demographic change and climate change Renewable energy is a relevant topic which finds great acceptance in the UAE Furthermore so called Smart Grids which optimize the management of electricity demand in a renewable and economic manner are being installed in UAE households helping to develop an advanced integrated infrastructure Mr Dietmar Siersdorfer mentioned that the collaboration with leading research institutes in the country is of great importance which provides Siemens with the opportunity to stay innovative in a dynamic environment The committee showed great enthusiasm and interest after this stimulating insight into the diversity of Siemens activities asking numerous questions The attendees had the pleasure of receiving an interesting tour of the Siemens Headquarter Abu Dhabi s first LEED Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Platinum office building which Siemens equipped with its sustainable technologies The building which won sixteen awards was designed by Sheppard Robson and provides workspace for roughly 800 employees It will save 46 per cent of energy consumption compared to conventional buildings of the same size The building is designed to adapt optimally to its natural environment reduce the water consumption by 50 per cent and minimize CO2 emissions by 30 per cent making it one of the most energy efficient buildings in the region n Markus Ell German Emirati Joint Council for Industry and Commerce AHK Abu Dhabi transport loGistiC events orGanized by ahK T he Transport sector is one of the focus areas of the German Emirati Joint Council for Industry and Commerce AHK as the potential for German companies from the industry as main contractors or subcontractors is increasing In September 2013 a Bavarian business delegation accompanied by the Bavarian Ministry of Economy traveled to Saudi Arabia Qatar and the UAE They had the opportunity to meet decision makers from the respective institutions and Ministries as well as potential trade agents A further delegation traveled to the UAE and Qatar in December 2013 under the auspices of the German Federal Ministry of Economics The five day trip included a symposium in Abu Dhabi where the participating companies presented their state of the art technology as well as had institutional meetings and meetings with potential trade agents in Abu Dhabi Dubai and Doha In order to prepare the participants for their meetings AHK conducted an extensive study on the transport sector as part of the program supported by the Federal Ministry of Economics n For further information on the companies or the study please contact dalia samra ahkuae com Dalia Abu Samra Rohte Deputy CEO and Director Abu Dhabi Office Regional Coordinator Business Development at German Emirati Joint Council for Industry and Commerce AHK MAJLIs ISSUE 12 27
