INSIDE HAMBURGINSIDE HAMBURG hAMbUrg At ArAb heAlth 2014 F or the first time this year a high ranking political delegation headed by the Prime Minister of the German Federal State of Mecklenburg Vorpommern H E Erwin Sellering travelled to the Arab Health Exhibition in Dubai The Prime Minister was accompanied by the Undersecretary of Economy Construction and Tourism H E Dr Rudolph The visit aimed to intensively promote the outstanding achievements of medtech and biotech companies from Mecklenburg Vorpommern in the Middle East The federal state of Mecklenburg Vorpommern is well known for the high competency and expertise of its institutions and companies particularly in the field of diabetic treatment and oncology Leading actors from the industry and medical institutions from Mecklenburg Vorpommern have developed a comprehensive concept for the UAE government for nationwide care and treatment of diabetes in the UAE and an integrated care for oncology patients During meetings with the UAE Minister of Health and the UAE Minister of Economy presentations of the special expertise and know how of Mecklenburg Vorpommern in the field of diabetes treatment and oncology were given The government of Mecklenburg Vorpommern continues its dialogue on these topics with its UAE counterparts In this context an initiative for a Summer School in the field of diabetes was developed and also presented in the UAE As part of general education and training doctors and medical staff from the GCC States will be offered the opportunity to attend lectures and practical training in diabetes management at the renowned Competence Centre for Diabetes in Karlsburg Mecklenburg Vorpommern Through the cooperation with the Healthcare Industry Service Centre Mecklenburg Vorpommern is represented year round in Dubai n presentAtion of the gerMAn federAl stAte of MeCKlenbUrg VorpoMMern At the ArAb heAlth 2014 in dUbAi N orth Germany was present with more than 50 exhibiting companies at the second largest healthcare exhibition worldwide Arab Health in Dubai this January The companies were accompanied by a political delegation representing Hamburg and Schleswig Holstein headed by H E Elke Badde Undersecretary of Health and Consumer Protection of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg the CEO of Hamburg Chamber of Commerce Prof Dr Hans Joerg Schmidt Trenz and the Managing Director of Norgenta North German Life Science Cluster Dr Hinrich Habeck together with several healthcare representatives A highlight of their visit was the opening of the Dubai office of the Hamburg company Dr Brill Partner specialized in hygiene and infection control at DubioTech Free Zone by H E Elke Badde The delegation also visited several healthcare institutions in the Emirate of Sharjah and met with the Chairman of Sharjah Health Authority H E Abdulla Al Mahyan Furthermore around 25 company and official representatives attended the workshop for Newcomers to the Gulf Region which was organized by the Healthcare Industry Service Centre and provided first hand information and insights on market entry conditions legal framework and local business culture The North German Evening networking event jointly organized by Norgenta North German Life Science Agency and the Hamburg Representative Office UAE Healthcare Industry Service Centre in partnership with Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Hamburg Chamber of Commerce was attended by more than 150 business people from the UAE and Northern Germany Germany is a global leader in healthcare and North German expertise in the field of medical and bio technologies life science and pharmaceuticals draws a lot of interest from the local market We are pleased to strengthen the business ties between the two regions for the benefit of our patients said Hamad Buamim President CEO of Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry H E Elke Badde pointed out Many of the companies of the North German healthcare and life science industry such as Dräger Medical Olympus and Eppendorf are global players with a long history But internationally recognized scientific institutions such as the Bernhard Nocht Institute as well as the University Hospitals of Hamburg and Schleswig Holstein also characterize our healthcare sector Over decades in some cases over centuries they have all created the basis for today s success The direct link between science and research as well as the broad clinical application of their results makes Northern Germany together with its companies a unique location for health care and life sciences n Kirsten Staab Director Hamburg Representative Office UAE Healthcare Industry Service Center 26 ISSUE 12 MAJLIs
