50 pust close your eyes take a deep breath and think of Scandinavia You re bound to have a clear idea in your mind the landscape the climate and perhaps even music after all Scandinavian musicians know exactly how to translate their nature and we re not just talking about the landscape we mean their mindset too into music puST are one of the vocal groups from norway who manage to make our images of northern Europe audible and their blend of sound is a genuine listening experience With a background in ensembles such as the Oslo chamber choir the six members of puST first came together in 2003 The choir s tack of translating the world of norwegian folk song into choral singing proved very influential for puST Their compositions reverberate attentively between Scandinavian folk jazzy tones and all sorts of worldly and natural sounds In 2005 the group won the Tampere Vocal Music Festival in Finland and two years later their debut album Femkant was nominated for one of norway s prestigious Spelleman awards The next two releases Kry featuring compositions writ ten by puST in norwegian and a christmas album entitled Julero also picked up several caRa nominations and were highly praised by critics Their current album Fryktløs largely contains self penned songs blending folk and pop During the course of their career puST have performed with the likes of Bobby McFerrin and The Manhattan Transfer and appeared at festivals in norway Sweden Denmark Germany austria France and Taiwan Mind you they ve never been to leipzig before and so we re all looking forward to another a cappella debut from the far north close your eyes take a deep breath a breath From the north
