K orea is looking for new ways to gen erate economic growth Our country has a strong industrial base and is in volved in a wide variety of technolo gies explains Phil Chung director of con ventions and global business development at Kintex Korea s leading event centre in Goyang near Seoul Examples include au tomation virtual reality financial technolo gies and solutions for trading and commerce Work is also under way on big data driver less cars mobile data processing in the well ness and health sectors and the Internet of Things The potential is such that trade fairs and conventions are targeting these growth areas Events are an ideal platform for bringing experts together to network as serts Chung Moreover it is also possible to add the new technology driven sectors and market niches to existing industry events The Korean trade fair and convention industry itself is currently showing strong growth And that is clearly having an effect on the current mood at Kintex 2016 is go ing to be a very busy year for us forecasts an optimistic Chung We have formed nu merous joint venture partnerships with lead ing organisers from all over the world The first ever Virtual Reality Summit VR Sum mit will be staged from 22 June to 24 June in partnership with Rising Media The event will be held in the same hall as the existing convention exhibitions Robouniverse and 3D Printing A total of around 30 000 visitors are expected at this three way event organised by Kintex and Rising Media Around 1 000 of them will be international buyers from 25 countries Three weeks before that the Ro tary International Convention will be filling the entire Kintex complex with around 55 000 delegates from 100 countries They believe they are well equipped with enough staff to cope In order to be able to imple ment these projects and go ahead with par tial acquisitions of international trade fairs and conventions in future Kintex recently re cruited new people Kintex is also planning to co organise an event in another growth sector Last Mile Fulfilment LMF which revolves around e logistics and e distribution The first LMF will be held together with K Shop in Septem ber The latter is a combined convention and trade fair for the retail trade which is fo cused on marketing technologies and shop design Around 25 000 industry visitors are expected for these two events A joint ven ture of quite a different kind was formed with the Hanhwa Group The catering team of this joint venture will be handling all the catering for trade fairs and conventions for three years That s quite a challenge in view of the high occupancy rate for the 100 000 square metres of exhibition space at Kintex As the largest Korean trade fair centre we host around 1 100 events a year calcu lates Phil Chung In addition we organise 15 international trade fairs and conventions www kintex com PB 64 TradeFairs Internation al 2 2016 INTERNATIONAL KOREA A very busy year Kintex Korea s largest event venue is focusing increasingly on future oriented sectors The decision makers there see huge opportunities for trade fairs and conventions Phil Chung M arbeitet mit seinem Team auf die nächsten Veranstaltungen im Kintex hin Phil Chung c and his team are preparing for the next events at Kintex Ph ot o K in te x
