T he trade fair organisers in the Shanghai district of Pudong are in good spirits After all the Shanghai New Interna tional Expo Centre SNIEC is having a very satisfactory year Our capacity utilisa tion is still good to very good reports Michael Kruppe general manager of the SNIEC We have around 110 events booked for 2016 That s around 10 percent more than in 2015 But things are not as easy as this for the trade fair industry everywhere in the country That could also have something to do with the fact that economic growth in the People s Republic of China is slowing some what If you look at the Chinese trade fair industry as a whole you see that the amount of exhibition space being booked and re served is falling slightly observes Kruppe However this appears to be primarily af fecting second and third tier cities Although the trade fair industry is con tinuing to thrive in the huge business hub of Shanghai the SNIEC decision makers are not resting on their laurels They are currently considering whether to extend the time hori zon for bookings in order to adapt to organ isers changing requirements Trade fairs are becoming ever larger and consequently or ganisers may be allowed a longer lead time This would give them above all greater planning reliability So far we haven t planned more than two or three years in ad vance explains Kruppe But we are now thinking about increasing this by a year or possibly two The services offered at the SNIEC are also being continually improved to suit the requirements of the target groups It is not just bookings of regular exhibition space demand for on site services is also constantly increasing says the exhibition centre boss This indicates that organisers continue to see the need to upgrade the qual ity of their shows One example of this is the trade fair combination of electronica Chi na productronica China and Laser World of Photonics China that was recently staged at the SNIEC by Messe München The services provided to exhibitors and visitors include a good Internet connection and a new Wi Fi system is now in operation at the Shanghai New International Expo Cen tre This year we will be asking all organis ers and exhibitors for feedback declares Michael Kruppe Once the feedback has been evaluated improvements can be made on an ongoing basis There is a strong focus on se curity as well and that is not just because of the recent terrorist attacks in Europe We were already working on this says Kruppe In addition to security the company also places a strong emphasis on health and safe ty at work We have recently been collabo rating with the authorities to develop guide lines and manuals that will help us in this area In addition the SNIEC has developed programmes and training schemes with the aim of improving safety A safety video has also been produced This is played to the workers on a large LED screen mounted on a vehicle before they enter the site www sniec net PB TradeFairs Internation al 2 2016 INTERNATIONAL CHINA Growth in the top tier Despite the fact that the news about China s economy is not exactly encouraging the trade fair industry is continuing to do well At least it is in megacities like Shanghai Ph ot o S N IE C Veranstalter sehen die Notwendigkeit ihre Shows qualitativ aufzuwerten be obachtet SNIEC Chef Michael Kruppe Organisers see the need to upgrade their shows says SNIEC s general manager Michael Kruppe
