T he Bundesvereinigung Veranstal tungswirtschaft fwd which is a Ger man event industry association and the Research Institute for Exhibition and Live Communication R I F E L have initiated a comprehensive survey of the in dustry The focus is on salaries and general conditions in order to get some clarity about the human resources situation That s a com modity that is in short supply in the current market environment We want to help our industry get a better picture of the current salary structure argues Jörn Huber the in dustry association s chairman In the best case scenario it will even be possible to make recommendations about remunera tion The motives behind the study included the need to answer questions such as How can a company remain an attractive employ er both within the industry and compared to other industries How can the event industry bring back skilled people who are now work ing in different industries What other con siderations are critical besides remuneration Even though order books have been full this summer thanks to the efforts that have been made to catch up following the pan demic this is not the time to breathe a sigh of relief according to the association A decline is expected in the autumn and winter Covid restrictions curtailed the financial years of 2020 and 2021 and led to a dramatic loss of skilled staff Around 54 percent one in two of the German event industry s trained and internationally recognised skilled staff have left Given the shortage of staff it is barely possible to cope with the current workload Jörn Huber believes this is one of the main reasons for the explosion of costs in the event industry The current situation on the job market is causing inflation of over 45 percent compared to last year The human resources situation in the event industry poses a more urgent problem than ever for the event industry association s decision makers If it is to be successfully tackled it is necessary to first take stock It is not just salaries bonuses and day rates that are being examined other benefits such as company cars pension schemes and working from home are also included Beyond that the aim is also to gain an understanding of the fundamental impact of the structural change brought about by the pandemic as well as the sociodemographic factors involved and the impact on prices The study began in August and is due to be published in Novem ber www forward live PB PRACTICE TRADE FAIR PROFESSIONALS One in two have left A study of salaries in the Ger man event industry this year is intended to provide facts It will also look at how to count er the exodus of staff from the industry
