F or three days the sky over the Sakhir Air Base in Bahrain was filled with feats of daring The breathtaking for mations of the Global Stars Mark Jef feries team of British aerobatic champions wowed the crowds as did the stunts of the Russian Knights a Russian Air Force team of heavy fighters Among the event s absolute highlights were the awe inspiring manoeu vres of the Frecce Tricolori team of the Italian Aeronautica Militare the world s largest aer obatic demonstration team The spectactular Bahrain International Airshow in mid No vember offered all of this and more There was unanimous agreement both during and after the event that it was an air show of su perlatives and a logistical tour de force as the numbers indicate a total of around 130 tonnes of material was transported including military vehicles drones aircraft parts and helicopters worth a total of 6 8 million US dollars Orders came in from 65 customers from all over the world including Europe Asia America and neighbouring Arab states It was all made possible by the outstanding cross border collaboration between a variety of partners DHL Trade Fairs Events TFE in Germany and Turkey DHL Express Bahrain and Danzas Bahrain A team of 25 people was deployed locally The working relationships with our colleagues around the world and in the Kingdom of Bahrain itself were fantastic declares Patrick Dexheimer the head of International Trade Fairs Events The good spirit among the interna tional team meant that relationships were harmonious which was extremely helpful After all there were some serious challenges to be met One of the biggest challenges was transporting a Turkish helicopter to Bahrain overland explains Dexheimer We had to use a 60 tonne crane to put the con tainers down between parked cars in order to unload from them Everything ran smoothly in spite of de mands like this As a result spectators were able to marvel at the aerobatics of the pilots at the Sakhir Air Base for the fourth time since the air show was first held in 2010 There was also plenty of high tech machin ery on display Besides the aerobatic demon stration teams the latest military aircraft and some legendary planes from the past could be admired Among them was a DHL 767 And on the ground at the air show which al so doubles as a large trade fair there were many different attractions to keep the many thousands of domestic and international vis itors amused They were even able to don a virtual reality flying suit and take to the air themselves There was also the opportunity for them to test their flying skills in a profes sional flight simulator and be entertained by bands and performance artists The team from TFE in Germany remained in Bahrain for a further 14 days after the end of the show After all everything that had been shipped in also had to be shipped back again www dhl tfe com PB 85TradeFairs Internation al 2 2019 PRACTICE TRADE FAIR LOGISTICS Desert sky spectacular The biennial Bahrain International Airshow delighted tens of thousands of visitors last autumn DHL Trade Fairs Events was the official logistics partner Einsatz in Bahrain v l Denis Baloia Madeleine Gleisberg Patrick Dexheimer und Lina Hecker Team in Bahrain from left Denis Baloia Madeleine Gleisberg Patrick Dexheimer and Lina Hecker Ph ot o D H L TF E
