T hings are happening in Kuala Lumpur over 180 events have been held at MITEC in the first 20 months since it opened in August 2017 including a va riety of regional and international trade fairs On average the organisers of these events have more than doubled the space they use by switching to the country s largest venue UBM plays an important role in filling the space at the Malaysia International Trade Exhibition Centre Now a subsidiary of Infor ma UBM stages the Malaysian International Furniture Fair MIFF there Due to its size the show will be held concurrently at two venues in the capital But MIFF is not the on ly trade fair that UBM Malaysia stages at MITEC Last year the organiser rented around 90 000 square metres of exhibition space and this is set to increase in Septem ber 2018 MITEC and UBM Malaysia con cluded a five year framework agreement Four new trade fairs are to be held from 2019 to 2023 and one more every two years until 2028 This is set to be a very fruitful partnership enthuses MITEC CEO Gunther Beissel It is likely to result in overall rev enues of around 262 million ringgit over 55 million euros The ICW was the first of the new UBM events to take place The estab lished construction trade fair switched to MITEC from a different venue and was held in the second half of March concurrently with Ecobuild a sustainable building trade fair Many trade fairs like this no longer re strict themselves to an exhibition alone A big driver of growth currently in terms of B2B events are accompanying combined con ferences and exhibitions and conferences themselves The Malaysia International Trade Exhibition Centre is expanding its conven tion capacity due to increasing demand From September two new flexible confer ence rooms will be available Depending on the seating provided the larger of the two holds up to 1 200 people while the smaller one can seat up to 400 However these two additional rooms can also be used as smaller exhibition spaces closer to the other conference rooms It ab solutely makes sense for us to increase our capacity beyond what we have currently emphasises Beissel That will enable us to expand our conference business Once con struction is completed MITEC will have 11 exhibition halls a ballroom 13 conference rooms two open air amphitheatres and the two new multi purpose rooms Over 45 000 square metres will be usable for exhibition purposes The high load bearing capacity of the floor on Level 1 is unique in Malaysia according to MITEC It means that heavy ma chinery and vehicles can also be exhibited there and makes the Malaysia International Trade Exhibition Centre extremely attrac tive to organisers of capital goods trade fairs to which exhibitors bring heavy machinery www mitec com my PB 70 TradeFairs Internation al 2 2019 INTERNATIONAL MALAYSIA More trade fairs more options The Malaysia International Trade Exhibition Centre MITEC is boosting the B2B segment of the event sector New events are on the way and new capacity as well Vereinbarung M Gandhi Senior Vize Präsident von UBM Asia l und Gunther Beissel CEO des MITEC Agreement M Gandhi senior vice president of UBM Asia l and Gunther Beissel CEO of MITEC Ph ot o M IT EC
