N othing lasts forever not even the name of an event the former Euro pean Open Seminar has now be come the UFI European Conference But it s not just the name that has undergone a revamp the European trade fair industry is arming itself and has now entered a strong investment cycle Over five billion euros are being invested in venues and venue infra structure within ten years This is to help meet the growing challenges of the next few years and make it fit for the future Accord ing to the motto It s time of the confer ence and in view of these huge efforts now is the right moment to look ahead At Koeln messe attendees will explore rising demand for digital venues changing event formats and new business models to be accommo dated in Europe s venues On the evening before the UFI event the delegates will meet for the traditional wel come reception This time the get together with a buffet will take place near the exhibi tion centre at Rheinterrassen a well known restaurant with a beach club and views of the cathedral On the next day 11 May mod erator David Boon of Brussels Expo will offi cially open the conference at 01 30 p m This will be followed by a keynote by Denzil Rankine of the UK consulting firm AMR In ternational He will focus on competitiveness the question how industry players can maintain regain or even expand their current position His presentation will analyse the current situation and offer ideas for the fu ture He will be taking account of corporate structures digital change and global devel opments Later there will be another opportunity to hear Denzil Rankine as a speaker Under the heading Deep Dive he will host an in teractive session on future company struc tures in the face of digitalisation And dele gates can take a further Deep Dive with Arun Madhok Suntec Singapore Stefan Rief of the Fraunhofer Institute and Matthias Schultze German Convention Bureau They will also discuss exhibition and convention venue responses to future event format needs interactively In the evening delegates will be 8 FOCUS TradeFairs Internation al 2 2017 UFI IN COLOGNE It s time to look ahead From 10 to 12 May European trade fair companies will be meet ing just across the river from the mighty cathedral Their focus will be on success factors of the future Von Basel im Vorjahr nach Köln in diesem Jahr Die UFI bleibt mit ihrem Sommerevent am Rhein From Basel last year to Cologne this year UFI returns to the Rhine with its summer event Ph ot o M C H G ro up
