K nown as CTICC East the project is now really taking shape The deci sion makers talk euphorically of it be ing a fusion of stone steel and glass The extension is being incorporated into the original building and the design blends in well despite some new elements Users at tending an event that occupies the entire trade fair and convention centre can be sure of a seamless experience On completion of the extension the event complex will offer clients more options new spaces and greater flexibility Anyone standing in the impressive reception foyer of CTICC East can t fail to no tice its most striking feature its floor to ceil ing height of 28 metres CTICC East has a to tal of six floors with exhibition halls and meeting rooms above ground and subter ranean parking and service areas and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding area The materials chosen make good use of natural light Together with other measures such as energy saving devices waste man agement and water conservation processes this has earned the centre a Four Green Star rating from the Green Building Council of South Africa Waste management energy consumption local sourcing and water con servation are key areas of concern for con vention centres says Julie May Ellingson the CTICC s CEO The CTICC has always fo cused on sustainability as a core business practice she says pointing out that con sumers and event managers are demanding that companies adopt sustainable business processes There is an inviting new 500 square metre rooftop garden and CTICC East also has more balconies than the original building These fea tures invite the outdoors in and will allow you to feel the pulse and rhythm of the city says Ellingson Exhibition Hall 10 also has a balcony that looks onto the harbour and Cape Town s pulsating traffic arteries In total CTICC East provides an addi tional 10 000 square metres of multi purpose conference and exhibition space in halls numbered 5 to 10 across the ground floor and second floor The sales and marketing teams have been working hard to create awareness of the new venue among the rele vant target groups and CTICC East has al ready clearly struck a chord with interna tional associations having secured event bookings as far ahead as 2022 The World Ophthalmology Congress is coming in 2020 With around 15 000 delegates this will be the largest event ever to be held at the Cape Town International Convention Centre We would not have been able to secure this event without the expansion argues Elling son There are also a number of highlights coming up already this year The Global Evi dence Summit is taking place in mid Septem ber The telecoms media and technology show AfricaCom is two months later This is the tenth time it is being hosted at the CTICC And in December the Global Food Security Conference will be held entirely in CTICC East www cticc co za PB 79TradeFairs Internation al 2 2017 SOUTH AFRICA A fusion of stone steel and glass The extension at the Cape Town International Convention Centre CTICC will be opening towards the middle half of the year Reason enough to take a look behind the scenes Im Cape Town International Convention Centre können die Gäste den Puls und den Rhythmus der Stadt fühlen At Cape Town International Convention Centre guests can feel the pulse and rhythm of the city Ph ot o C TI CC
