134 BISp Report 2016 17 Bilanz 1 Athena The National Council for the Advancement of Women s Sports in Israel The National Council for the Advancement of Girls and Women in Sports acts under Israeli Government Resolution 3416 dated 21 3 2005 Vision To change Israel s sports culture both socially and as to gender thinking In order to ensure the full participation of girls and women In all fields of sports and at all levels Goals 1 Increase the grassroots participation of girls and women nationwide which will build up the number of high quality female athletes as well In light of the low mass participation rate we must act to substantially increase the number of women who actively engage in sports athletes teams coaches judges create conditions that will allow any girl teen and woman to engage in sports at any age place and level of achievement and emphasize the expanded participation of those residing in Israel s periphery and in communities that have not had an equal opportunity to engage in sports until now 2 Educate to change social thinking about the importance of sports as a significant essential factor in training and shaping each and every girl Without significant perceptual and social change regarding women and sports no true fundamental progress can be made in the scope of girls teens and women s sports activities We must act to bring about recognition of the advantages engaging in sports provides as a stimulus for success creating self esteem and teaching practical life skills Thus society will encourage girls to pursue sports with consistency and excellence and will evolve into a more egalitarian society in which women participate in the game too Abb 2 Vision des Athena Programms
