inhabitants Nuremberg is a compact city and the ap proach routes are good The Bavarian metropolis extends some 14 km from east to west with the Exhibition Centre in the south about 7 km from the city centre and 5 km from the airport Whether you re coming by plane train or auto mobile there are all sorts of ways to get to this Bavarian me tropolis Nuremberg is one of Germany s more accessible cit ies The Exhibition Centre also has good traffic connections If you re intending to spend several days at the European Coatings Show and you still haven t arranged any accom modation you d better move fast The following tips on how to get there accommodation etc should prove useful to more than just the first time visitor By rail Nuremberg s main railway sta tion is a junction on the Euro pean high speed rail network and is on the national and in ternational EC IC and ICE rail network The city is very well connected and most of these lines arrive and depart from Nuremberg every hour From the main station it takes less than 10 minutes to get to the Exhibition Centre Travellers have to get on the U11 under ground train in the direction of Messe Exhibition or U1 in the direction of Langwasser At peak periods the under ground trains travel every 6 to 7 minutes By plane Flying to Nuremberg from with in Europe is straightforward as the city s airport can be reached direct from many Eu ropean cities A nonstop flight from Paris to Nuremberg for example takes one hour and twenty minutes while Vienna is between 50 minutes and one hour away with Hamburg pret ty much one hour distant Inter continental travellers can take connecting flights from neigh bouring international airports such as Frankfurt Munich Zu rich Amsterdam and Paris The U2 underground line connects the airport to the main sta tion and the journey takes 12 minutes The journey from the airport to the Exhibition Centre takes 25 minutes and you have to change at the main station A taxi from the city centre to the ECS will take 15 to 20 minutes in normal traffic whereas the trip from the airport to the Exhibi tion and Congress Centre takes about 20 minutes By car Nuremberg has excellent mo torway access routes The city can be reached from all direc tions via the European motor way network A3 A6 A9 and A 73 The motorways are well signposted and the city s new electronic traffic guidance sys tem for major events at the Ex hibition Centre the easyCredit Stadium and the Arena makes it easy to find your destination within the city Nuremberg occupies a central location in the southern Ger man and European motorway network which might prove tempting for those of you who enjoy the thrill of no speed lim its on German autobahns For cars equipped with a satellite navigation sat nav system just enter Karl Schönleben Straße or the special destina tion Messe exhibition cen tre Drivers without a satellite navigation system shouldn t worry Europe s premier traf fic and parking guidance sys tem will ensure you arrive at the ECS safe and sound Auto bahns A3 A6 A9 and A73 all head towards the Exhibition and Congress Centre Drivers travelling on the A6 should exit at junction 59 Langwasser those taking the
