34 MGCC PERSPECTIVES MAY JUN 2018 MEMBERS MARCUS SCHMIDT Chief Executive Officer Wuerth Industrial Services Malaysia Sdn Bhd Tell us about yourself I started as a young intern in the Wuerth Group in Germany in the year 2000 After my internal training I moved to the headquarter of Wuerth Industrie Service GmbH Co KG in Bad Mergentheim South Germany in the Key Account Department and assisted customers from different industry branches all over Europe in different Lean Management Worldwide Optimised Delivery and Supply Chain Projects for C Parts like Kanban implementations in factories of our clients A personal highlight for me was the promotion as Sales Manager to take over worldwide responsibility in the year 2012 for one of the largest customers in Wuerth Group After 16 years of getting experience in different customer projects I received the opportunity to be responsible for the industry business of the Wuerth Group in Southeast Asia starting in 2017 What is the most important thing you re working on right now Currently we are focusing on Industry 4 0 which is an important megatrend that has been transforming the way we live and also how we work for nearly two decades A large variety of industries including logistics marketing and manufacturing are already using IoT technology today and this number will keep increasing since now both large and small companies are adopting it Additionally with our Wuerth online shop and mobile app setup customers can connect easily with us Now they can find all the information they need in our online catalogue Just like others our online shop is always open so Wuerth is one of the few supply chain companies to have successfully embarked on a digital transformation plan By harnessing a network of online channels the company has modernised its customer outreach by building a number of self serve capabilities that allows the company to get to market quicker The company was incorporated in Malaysia more than 30 years ago Today it serves more than 4 000 active customers and is still growing rapidly Did You Know customers get instant information and they can place orders anytime and anywhere that is convenient What makes Wuerth unique The focus and strength of our activities is to support our customers as their strategic partner for Lean Management Solutions This will allow them to concentrate on more expensive A or B parts and their core business for example the production of cranes or trains and not to spend their manpower following up with C parts Our supply solution is customised to the individual needs of each customer In addition to process optimisation Wuerth also supports the engineering process whereby we offer more than 1 000 000 items and also special or customised parts
