MGCC PERSPECTIVESMAY JUN 2018 33 MEMBERS MARCO NEELSEN Chief Executive Officer Pelabuhan Tanjung Pelepas Sdn Bhd Tell us about your company Port of Tanjung Pelepas PTP is Malaysia s largest integrated logistics service provider and is also a joint venture between MMC Corporation Berhad and APM Terminals a leading global ports group with a global port network in 57 countries As one of the fastest growing ports in the world PTP plans to continue in pushing its efficiency and high productivity level to ensure PTP remains competitive in the market and ultimately push itself to become the most preferred transhipment port in the world What brought you to Malaysia PTP has a very good reputation so when I was offered to manage one of the biggest container terminal facilities in the world it was just something that I simply could not refuse I joined PTP as Chief Executive Officer on 7 November 2016 I am a trained and certified navigational officer with a combined total of 18 years experience in the Maritime Industry predominantly in Ports within Europe and Asia and more than nine years in leadership roles I also hold a Bachelor Degree in Maritime Transport and a Master Mariner in Maritime from Germany How do see Malaysia as a business location Overall Malaysia s strategic location and competitive position make it an attractive Port of Tanjung Pelepas PTP is Malaysia s largest container terminal From its humble beginnings as a fishing village Tanjung Pelepas has experienced steady growth since the port opened 18 years ago and is now a stopover for major shipping alliances like 2M Ocean Alliance and The Alliance PTP not only facilitates domestic economic activities of Southern Johor it is also one of the main transhipment hubs in the region PTP domestic containers which reflected favourable Johor economic activities grew by 6 over the previous year Did You Know option for companies to invest and is the ideal business hub for regional and global companies that are keen to tap into Asia s emerging market Malaysia strategic location is an attractive and competitive platform for logistics companies The expansion and relocation of many international based companies are testament to Malaysia s growing potential to become the preferred distribution hub in the region Where is Malaysia s highest growth potential in the next five years The logistics sector is crucial for global trade and will be at the forefront of the economy in the next five years Seaports airports and multimodal transport e g road and rail are expected to handle higher volumes The establishment of Digital Free Trade Zone DFTZ is an example of an initiative of facilitating seamless cross border trade using e commerce that will evolve around various logistics components
