30 MGCC PERSPECTIVES MAY JUN 2018 EDUCATION AND TRAINING COMMON GOAL MGCC proudly hosted the Annual Conference for German style dual training in the Asia Pacific Region The huge turnout of AHK colleagues this year marks a turning point in the regional collaboration of the dual training programme which promised new ways of working and improved implementation By Josef Tschoep Asia Pacific AHKs Exceed Expectations in Achieving Dual Training Targets German Dual Vocational Training GDVT as coordinated and certified by MGCC is fortunately not unique anymore only to Malaysia within Asia This salient fact was highlighted recently by the good attendance of MGCC s Dual Training Exchange Meeting of AHKs in the Asia Pacific region From 25 27 April 12 colleagues from the dual training projects and departments of German chambers and delegations from Indonesia Vietnam Philippines India Hong Kong East China South Korea as well as a representative from the Association of German Chambers of Commerce and Industry DIHK were present at MGCC s office for the annual meeting The first participants arrived early on Monday 23 April to visit our partner vocational institute their member companies a standardised industry driven and high quality training format based on the German Dual Training System A big support for this standardisation of quality management and certification for GDVT in the AHKs worldwide comes from the DIHK The Head of Division for TVET Abroad Steffen Gunnar Bayer gave a briefing about news from the DIHK as well as the latest updates of the internal guidelines for AHK standardised TVET activities Further topics discussed were among others the self sustainability and funding of the various GDVT projects the different approaches of promotion raising awareness for German Dual Vocational Training the Penang Skills Development Centre in Penang as well as our partner training company B Braun and its state of the art in company training centre They left Penang impressed and with lots of new ideas for their own country specific dual training projects On Wednesday the two day meeting started with an introduction round where each AHK had the opportunity to showcase their respective Technical and Vocational Education and Training TVET activities Each chamber s set up and progress is unique in terms of trainings offered amount of participating companies and trainees financial aspects challenges and so on Nevertheless what all have in common is their aspiration to offer Representatives from AHKs participated in a roundtable discussion on improving the new modules for vocational training
