96 a cappella contest at the International a caPPElla contest leipzig aspiring young vocal groups compete for the leipzig a caPPElla aWaRD On 13 and 14 May 2015 ten ensembles will be testing their mettle at the Mendelssohn Hall of the Gewandhaus Visitors can look forward to both classical singing and contemporary a cappella pop Groups perform ing in different styles will compete in one category and be rated by the judges using the same criteria namely technical and artistic performance stage pres ence and overall impression The judges composed of international experts in vocal music will choose the winner of the leipzig a caPPElla aWaRD 2015 The aim behind the contest is to encourage young a cappella singers It is therefore only open to groups with between three and eight members and an average age of no more than twenty nine In ad dition to their performances during the competition entrants will be offered additional support through a wide range of activities during their stay in leipzig These will above all include individual appraisals of groups performances by judges Furthermore at the a caPPElla Workshop ensembles will have an opportunity to work on their repertoire with a specialist see page 106 The a caPPElla Seminar on the voice will provide insights into ana tomical aspects of how the voice functions see page 108 Incentives will be offered to young vocal groups to maintain their singing activity afterwards For example the winners of the leipzig a caPPElla aWaRD will be invited to return the following year in order to perform a full length concert during the a cappella festival In this regard the winners in 2014 will be appearing in this year s festival as well Previous winners and runners up have gone on to enjoy busy concert schedules confirming the jury s talent spotting skills Inviting some of them to perform in leipzig again underlines their enormous talent and their appearance will enhance the prestige of the a cappella festival You ll just have to decide for yourself by visiting the competition and the concerts during the festival NB Since the size of the audience at the International a caPPElla contest leipzig is increasing all the time but the number of seats at the Mendelssohn Hall at the Gewandhaus is limited tickets will be sold for 5 Euro per day We apologise for any inconvenience international a cappella contest leipzig
