sJaella 87 SjAELLA are no strangers to the audience at a cappella Since they hail from leipzig and Markkleeberg it s no surprise that they ve al ready made several appearances at the festival and competition Tipped by some to win the leipzig a caPPElla aWaRD at some point and hence host a prizewinner s concert at the festival this was by no means a foregone conclusion after all that takes some very special qualities yet SjAELLA evidently has them in abundance The youngsters put in a promising first showing at the festival when they entered the a caPPElla contest in 2009 fighting off plenty of interna tional challengers to garner third place In the following years they worked hard to refine their already impressive vocal skills and developed a broad and given their youthfulness especially impressive repertoire In 2013 they were the ideal choice for the a cappella family concert and also excelled in a spontaneous musical performance alongside Bobby McFerrin during his festival show last year Finally they took part in the competition again and fulfilled their promise at last by blossoming into the dazzling winners of the leipzig a caPPElla aWaRD With an average age of just twenty two in May 2015 SjAELLA can look back on ten extremely excit ing and successful years together as a purely female vocal ensemble With their brilliant highly organic sound char ming freshness and high artistic standards SjAELLA continue to thrill audiences in Germany and abroad Maintaining close contact with contemporary composers many of the pieces they perform were written especially for them Before celebrating their first decade at the end of the year by releasing a third cD which this time will be devoted solely to jazz they ll be staging a birthday recital at a cappella Something of a self portrait it will show off their many facets and strengths with a collection of music ranging from pop and jazz to contemporary religious choral works PRizEWiNNER S cONcERT modern soul searching 7pm geWandhaus leo schWarz Foyer INTRODucTION wITh SjAELLA AND hOLgER KRAuSE
