A n impressive set of figures was pre sented at the Industry Day of the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau TCEB just over a month or so ago The MICE sector generated total rev enues of around 5 5 billion euros in 2015 and made a considerable contribution to the country s economy revealed TCEB presi dent Nopparat Maythaveekulchai at the re cent event MICE activities created almost 165 000 jobs he added The figures for the current financial year have again been good Thailand welcomed over 750 000 MICE visi tors in the first three quarters Interestingly over half of them came for meetings or in centives MI The MI business is making a huge contribution as an engine of growth for the Thai economy enthuses Maythaveekul chai This is a vibrant and strategically im portant sector Most meetings and incentives visitors this year have come from India China and Singapore So it s no wonder that the TCEB decision makers are focusing primarily on these Asian markets Europe America and Oceania come next It is also planned to bring Thailand stronger into focus in new markets such as eastern Europe or the Com monwealth countries The structure of the meetings and incentives events has also been analysed Three target segments with partic ularly high potential have been identified Firstly there are large events involving over 2 000 international delegates said Nooch Homrossukhon the TCEB director for meet ings and incentives at the Industry Day These are direct sales MLM telecommuni cations IT and automotive industry events she added Secondly corporate meetings such as board meetings AGMs regional meetings or training events are also impor tant The visitors in these cases come pri marily from Japan Singapore Malaysia the US and Australia The third important seg ment are the premium incentive groups The TCEB is trying to encourage collabo ration with key partners in the MICE indus try To this end the marketing plan for the coming year has been placed on a broad footing The TCEB will again be exhibiting at international trade fairs in important markets in 2017 including at AIME in Melbourne and at Imex in both Frankfurt and Las Vegas In addition it will be organising Thailand MICE Roadshows in China India and Japan for ex ample Sales activities are also planned in emerging premium markets The Thailand Incentive Meeting Exchange 2016 TIME programme is expected to provide valuable assistance offering the MICE industry a new platform for exchanging knowledge and initi ating business relationships New representa tive offices are planned in Europe and Aus tralia There are already offices in China In dia Japan Singapore and the US Particular emphasis is being placed on the Chinese market The TCEB is putting out feelers in many major and mid ranking cities www tceb or th PB 60 TradeFairs Internation al 5 2016 INTERNATIONAL THAILAND Economic factor and jobs generator There are moves afoot to ensure the kingdom s MICE sector takes another step forward in 2017 After all the economic im pact of the industry is felt throughout the country Industry Day 2016 TCEB Präsident Nopparat Maythaveekulchai und TCEB Direktorin Nooch Homrossukhon Industry Day 2016 TCEB president Nopparat Maythaveekulchai and TCEB director Nooch Homrossukhon Ph ot o T C EB
