T he IFES World Summit attracted record numbers to the Hofburg in Vienna in June At the same time many new members were welcomed from all over the world We have to continue to work un remittingly on our structural development says IFES Executive Director Uta Goretzky That will enable us to exploit the consider able potential that exists The long standing head of communications at FAMAB took up her post only recently and is managing the federation s activities from her office in Frankfurt She succeeded Elizabeth Niehaus who left to devote more of her time to the management of the International Exhibition Logistics Association IELA One of Goretz ky s first decisions was to strengthen the or ganisation by taking on two new people The IFES team are not going to be short of things to do We want to raise our pro file explains Uta Goretzky That means we will have to work even more intensively with the press In addition the federation s web site needs more anchor points so that it will be used more intensively There are already 22 country reports in the protected section of the website The plan is to provide more in formation There are a few things that it is important for international exhibition service companies to know emphasises Goretzky For example what the power supply situa tion is which plugs are used or just what the entry requirements are for a country The lists of links specific to each event host also seem to be a useful feature facilitating the search for technical guidelines or hotels for example She will also be focusing on the event formats and will be making a start on this with the numerous working groups The new IFES Executive Director emphasises how ad visable it is to explore important issues in depth We have to ensure that working group meetings are well attended enough for a proper exchange to take place Improve ments are also planned for the federation s most important event the annual IFES World Summit To this end the recent summit in Vienna has been analysed in depth The country workshops went down very well But for stand design companies that often work abroad professional expertise alone is not enough They need to work with an es tablished local partner company Collaboration like this has to work on a personal level and the World Summit in Vi enna was a huge success in this respect too The business speed meetings received a lot of praise reports Uta Goretzky That shows how important it is to come up with formats that allow members to get to know each oth er The aim is to continue to facilitate this kind of networking as the next summit in Is tanbul will demonstrate see IFES News on page 70 In addition in the medium term Goretzky wants these event formats to give rise to separate autonomous events wher ever slots can be found in the exhibition con struction industry s tight schedule A further objective is to broaden the membership for example in Asia and the Middle East In ad dition it is hoped to bring national industry associations on board and get them to make IFES expertise available to their companies www ifesnet com PB 32 FOCUS TradeFairs Internation al 6 2015 IFES 2016 IFES strengthens its structures The International Federation of Exhibition and Event Services continues to professionalise The stand designers association has plenty to keep it occupied IFES Summit in Wien Großes Lob erhielten die Business Speed Meetings berichtet Uta Goretzky IFES Summit in Vienna There was huge praise for the business speed meetings says Uta Goretzky Ph ot o IF ES
