M any successful Scandinavian trade fairs focus on niche markets some times at intervals of several years and often in industries where Scan dinavia has strengths Some of these events play an important role internationally One example is International Pulp Paper Week the world s most important pulp and paper industry fair The last one held in Stockholm in 2011 attracted around 650 exhibitors from 30 countries and almost 10 000 trade visitors Adforum the organiser of Pulp Paper Week and its two offshoots in China and In dia is keen on cross border cooperation The trade fair company was founded in 1968 and is a joint venture by Stockholmsmässan and Messukesku in Helsinki It was no doubt al so born out of a recognition that there was no room for two top industry fairs in Scandi navia which is relatively thinly populated The trade fair company Elmia based in Jönköping also has experience with trade fairs held at intervals of over a year Every four years it stages the world s leading forestry trade fair Elmia Wood in a forest near Jönköping Elmia also organises the in ternationally important World Bioenergy a combined convention and trade fair that at tracted people from around 80 countries last time World Bioenergy is held at the same time as Adforum s Pulp Paper Week The next one will be staged during International Wood Biorefining Week from 24 to 26 May 2016 in Stockholm The third event under the new umbrella brand is Elmia s Bioeconomy Innovation Forum All three events will take place in a single hall and the accompanying conferences will also have their place This integrative approach takes into account the increasing synergies between the industries involved to a greater extent than before Elmia makes this clear with a comparison between yesterday and today When we launched World Bioenergy by products of log ging and sawmills were the most important drivers of growth argues Torbjörn Johnsen Now we have a totally different situation stresses the man responsible for forestry at Elmia That s because bioenergy is become in creasingly important in the product mix of the paper and pulp industry Companies are repo sitioning themselves and looking beyond their traditional target groups to find customers in terested in bioenergy As a general principle it is hoped that the new International Wood Biorefining Week will encourage dialogue across the boundaries between industries Moreover Sweden and Finland are playing a leading role in the transition towards a bioen ergy based society says Torbjörn Johnsen of Elmia This development is being driven by the forestry industry he points out That s why it s right that we are staging this new in ternational event in Stockholm says John sen explaining the choice of the well accessi ble Swedish capital www elmia se PB 29TradeFairs Internation al 5 2015 SCANDINAVIA Looking north for a lead in bioenergy Organisers Elmia and Adforum are staging three important events under the same exhibition hall roof for International Wood Biorefining Week at the end of May next year Messe World Bioenergy Schweden und Finnland haben eine besondere Position auf dem Weg zu einer biobasierten Gesellschaft World Bioenergy fair Sweden and Finland play a major role on the way to a biobased society Ph ot o E lm ia
