B usiness is picking up in the Hungari an capital and building machines are gathering speed In the next few months they will be working on the time honoured Hungexpo site in Budapest It is being refurbished and will as a result of fer new event options after completion of the project For this purpose those responsible are taking a lot of money into their hands Around 170 million euros have been ear marked for investment in various measures As part of the revamp and expansion two new exhibition halls a new reception build ing and a congress centre will be added Construction work on the Hungexpo site of ficially kicked off in early autumn with the laying of the foundation stone for the new congress centre This symbolic ceremony was performed by Alexandra Szalay Bo brovniczky deputy mayor of Budapest Gá bor Ganczer head of Hungexpo and Balázs Denhoffer managing director of Expo Park Ltd The latter represented the public owners of the event centre operated by GL Events There is a great need for sufficient mul tifunctional congress capacities in the Hun garian capital Budapest has long been in the focus of international meeting organisers says Hungexpo Due to the rapid growth of the industry a revitalisation of the venue was inevitable Hence those responsible em phasised the importance of the upcoming ac tivities for future business at the foundation stone ceremony This is the most important day for our company since its foundation 50 years ago stressed Gábor Ganczer From 2021 Budapest will benefit from this and play a well deserved role in the field of large major and mega sized events was his opti mistic forecast This was not possible before due to the lack of a proper size congress cen tre With the current development new multifunctional options will be added offer ing great future prospects The ambitious construction project at Hungexpo includes the expansion of the event space by adding two new halls D1 will boast 5 700 square metres and D2 7 300 square metres The other existing pavilions will also receive a refurbishment with new flooring and a facelift of their exterior After completion of the work eight halls with an area of 5 000 to 20 000 square metres will be available equalling a total indoor space of 60 000 square metres which can be occu pied by exhibitors in future All eight halls will be interconnected by a covered passage way So visitors can keep dry when moving between them in wet and windy weather The brand new congress centre will boast three storeys an auditorium for 2 000 people and two dozen smaller meeting rooms A 2 300 square metre roof terrace ought to be the absolute highlight being predestined for open air receptions and events State of the art technology is also key in the furnishings of the congress centre The building will be equipped with an ultramod ern recessed seating system making it possi ble to adapt the premises to virtually any event within the shortest space of time The audiovisual system will also be top of the range which should be a further advantage in attracting prestigious international events Completion is scheduled for the middle of the year after next in summer 2021 Hungex po promises that trade fairs congresses and galas will run smoothly during construction activities Already in September 2020 a well known international mega event will take place 15 000 participants will be coming to Budapest for the International Eucharistic Congress of Roman Catholic Churches And in the following year there will be another prestigious meeting of global importance Then the Hungexpo site will host the World Hunting Expo So figuratively speaking we will see one top event chasing the other www hungexpo hu PB 46 TradeFairs Internation al 4 2019 INTERNATIONAL HUNGARY The most important day in 50 years The country s leading trade fair company Hungexpo is getting ready for the future within the next year and a half Above all this will benefit its growing congress business Grundsteinlegung bei Hungexpo Balázs Denhoffer l Alexandra Szalay Bobrovniczky und Gábor Ganczer r Laying the foundation stone at Hungexpo Balázs Denhoffer left Alexandra Szalay Bobrovniczky and Gábor Ganczer right Ph ot o H un ge xp o
