T he OSC building houses everything un der a single roof ensuring through its architecture and location in the trade fair centre that arrangements can be made and decisions taken quickly When there is an emergency those involved in han dling it can thus respond more quickly and inform their colleagues This goes beyond statutory requirements according to Messe Frankfurt and is unique in the trade fair in dustry up to now Five functional units the Messe Frankfurt control centre units for the police and fire service the medical centre and security centre are located by Hall 4 taking up 2 200 square metres of floor space The control centre is responsible for techni cal operational management at the trade fair centre All technical systems are controlled and regulated from there reports and notifi cations of all kinds are received and emer gencies are dealt with in accordance with the trade fair company s emergency management policy The control centre is occupied 24 hours a day 365 days a year reports Dim itrios Donis the OSC team leader at Messe Frankfurt Whether the other organisational units are manned varies from one unit to another The police station at Messe Frankfurt is al ways open from Monday to Friday during the daytime For major events it is also open on Saturdays Sundays and public holidays says Dimitrios Donis Fire service staff are on hand whenever required The same ap plies to the central medical centre at the OSC where paramedics and emergency doc tors are in attendance and have suitable equipment such as ECG and ultrasound ma chines as well as emergency vehicles In ad dition to these organisational units the OSC s service partners are also present in the same part of the building adds Donis Ef forts to meet the security requirements for each event are generally coordinated involv ing both the security service and the emer gency service Arrangements are also made with the police and the fire service However most of the incoming reports and notifications concern technical problems rather than security related incidents An es calator might break down for example The fault report is forwarded to the control centre straight away explains Donis Our col leagues in the control centre check the set tings immediately and alter them where nec essary After a system has been adjusted feed back is given If the problem is more serious the appropriate department or on call service is notified and the problem is addressed with out delay We often get reports about some where being too cold or too warm Everyone feels temperatures differently and we often get completely contradictory reports from the same hall says Donis We also regularly have to address security related problems such as a fire alarm going off or deal with re ports of lost bags or other possessions www messefrankfurt com PB 17 FOCUS TradeFairs Internation al 3 2019 GERMAN EXHIBITION CENTRES When it s too warm or too cold Messe Frankfurt has an Operation and Security Center OSC This handles all security related issues and technical operatio nal management Auf einem Fleck Polizeiwache Feuerwache und Sanitätsstation mit Personal Einsatz fahrzeugen und Equipment All under one roof police station fire station and medi cal station with staff emergency vehicles and equip ment Ph ot o M es se F ra nk fu rt
