F or decades now Hanover has prided it self on having the world s largest trade fair centre But that distinction which seemed as if it would endure indefi nitely will soon finally be consigned to the past That s because the dynamic metropolis of Shenzhen a city of 13 million people is now reaching for the stars also in a quite lit eral sense There are huge plans taking shape in this southern Chinese boomtown and a massive amount of construction is under way millions of apartments are going to be built in the next few years as are a new metro network and prestigious buildings ris ing to heights of around 700 metres Giant steps are also being taken in the event indus try A superlative brand new trade fair cen tre is taking shape Construction is already well advanced the first phase of the con struction project for the Shenzhen World Ex hibition Convention Center will be com pleted in around two months from now in July At that point there will be 400 000 square meters of indoor exhibition space available and the second phase will take the take the centre across the magic threshold of 500 000 square metres Other figures associated with this huge project are also very impressive and some could well end up in the Guinness Book of Records All 19 halls of Shenzhen World are connected by a 1 75 km corridor Halls 1 to 16 are 20 000 square metres each They are all at ground level which should be a big help when it comes to constructing and dis mantling exhibition stands for trade fairs Halls 18 and 20 are multifunctional special halls of exactly the same size in which con ferences sports events and live entertain ment events can be held A total of 32 000 square metres of space will be available for conferences Hall 17 is a massive building of 50 000 square metres Shenzhen World has five entrances and the site also has good transport links The trade fair centre will have two metro stations with one line con necting it to the airport just a few kilometres away Those who arrive by car can use one of the 9 000 parking spaces in the under ground car park which has two levels A comprehensive supporting infrastruc ture is needed to make use of Shenzhen World An area of 1 54 million square metres is being developed for this and will include hotels where exhibitors and trade fair visitors can stay overnight A lot has happened re cently in this respect with renowned brands such as Hilton Hilton Garden Crowne Plaza and InterContinental confirming their com mitment A total of two five star and 12 four star hotels are currently expected to be with in a radius of 10 kilometres Should that not be enough hotels in neighbouring Chang an Town in the city of Dongguan can be used There are a further six five star hotels there just 15 to 25 minutes by car from Shenzhen World Numerous international trade fair bosses and delegations have visited Shen zhen World in the last few months to take a look around and see what s on offer www shenzhen world com PB 64 TradeFairs Internation al 2 2019 INTERNATIONAL CHINA Reaching for the stars A huge new trade fair centre is being built in the Pearl River Delta region On completion of the second construction phase it will be the largest in the world Die neue Shenzhen World verfügt über fünf Eingänge und wird an zwei Metrolinien ange bunden werden The new Shenzhen World has five entrances and will be connected to two metro lines Ph ot o S he nz he n W or ld
