T he 12th AFF was organised by the gov ernment of the special administrative region of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council HK TDC The theme of the forum was the cre ation of a sustainable and integrative future Over 130 speakers were there including politicians and leading figures from the fi nancial industry and business and invest ment communities They talked with dele gates about current global trends opportuni ties and challenges In a number of sessions it was discussed how the financial industry can use new technologies effectively to achieve sustainable development Over 700 different meetings took place in the match making programme which gave project own ers and investors the opportunity to come to gether Over 500 investment projects in a wide range of different fields were presented including production and environmental technology fintech digital technologies health infrastructure and real estate educa tion the environment energy and agricul ture The HKTDC s mobile app was used during the AFF to ask delegates about how they ex pected things to pan out in 2019 15 percent of those asked indicated they were optimistic about the prospects for the global economy 38 percent were neutral and 47 percent were pessimistic When asked about the regions with the best investment returns 39 percent picked south east Asia and 35 percent main land China Some way behind came the US 16 percent Japan 3 percent and western Europe 2 percent Health was thought to be the industry with the greatest growth poten tial chosen by 38 percent followed by telecommunications media and e commerce 30 percent and environmental products and services 19 percent 77 percent of AFF del egates saw the trade tensions between the US and China as the greatest risk to financial stability Far behind that came the normalisa tion of monetary policy 10 percent cyber crime and security risks 7 percent Brexit and fiscal policy in the EU were of significant concern to only 6 percent www hktdc com PB 42 TradeFairs Internation al 2 2019 INTERNATIONAL HONG KONG Where are the opportunities and risks In mid January over 3 300 representatives from the business com munity politics and financial sector met up at the Asian Financial Forum AFF They were also asked about their expectations Successful Innobuild premiere The spring edition of the Hong Kong International Lighting Fair took place at the HongKong Convention and Exhibition Centre at the beginning of April One new developmentat the 11th Lighting Fair was Innobuild a new segment aimed at architects developers and professionals involved in modernising buildings Building technologies automation sys tems smart buildings solutions and property management systems as well as security sys tems for burglar alarms and surveillance were among the areas covered Data encryption technologies smart locks and access control systems sustainable construction functional and decorating materials were also presented In addition electrical systems for buildings such as cables connectors circuit breakers measurement instruments and switches were in cluded In these areas vendors were able to benefit from synergies with the lighting industry 700 Einzelmeetings fan den im Rahmen eines Matchmakings statt wo sich Projekteigner und Investoren austauschten 700 one on one meetings took place during the matchmaking event bringing project owners together with investors Ph ot o H KT D C
