T his year s results give cause for opti mism According to IMF forecasts Qatar s GDP is poised to post 3 1 per cent growth in 2018 Growth drivers include increasing gas production and sus tained spending in the context of the 2022 World Cup The recovery of global crude oil prices should also have a positive impact Expectations for 2019 are correspondingly optimistic also for events which partly ex perienced strong growth in 2018 Experts pre dict that exhibitions in Qatar will still be flourishing and resilient Doha Exhibition Convention Center DECC is expecting a good year with growing activities This will be reflected by the growth of some exhibi tions DECC cites events in the fields of food and agriculture fashion homeland security and services Trade fairs for the building and construc tion industry and related sectors are also posting dynamic growth Currently towering cranes fill the skies in the region as is mir rored by the figures For 2018 construction deals are set to rise to almost 150 billion US dollars in the countries of the Gulf Coopera tion Council GCC There are 2000 hospital ity and leisure projects now underway across the GCC In Qatar alone the construction market posts an annualised average sector expansion of 14 per cent The Big 5 Qatar was recently launched at the DECC a con struction show featuring over 240 exhibitors including various national pavilions from Italy to China They presented their offerings also in live product demonstrations to around 11 000 attendees at Big 5 Qatar After the premiere of the interior design exhibition Index in 2017 this is the second show organ ised by dmg events at the DECC Another or ganiser has been active in Doha s local events scene for longer than that In 2018 IFP already staged its Project Qatar for the fifteenth time The recent edition attracted 421 exhibitors from 29 countries and more than 14 000 visitors This makes it one of the leading construction shows in the Gulf re gion Despite the political differences in the region and the resulting sanctions Qatar has proved to be very stable Many international ties for example to German partners have been maintained The fact that the economy is in such good shape is largely due to self sufficiency initiatives and diversification within the sectors In addition there has been strong government spending and steady private sector investment with investors tak ing a medium to long term view of market opportunities There are new flight connec tions offered by Qatar Airways visa free en try for more countries and political support for major events All this has an impact on business at Doha Exhibition Convention Center There has been an increase in ex hibitor participation from new markets These include Iran Oman India Pakistan and Turkey Turkey Expo made its debut at DECC in 2018 after its relocation And infra structure in the vicinity is growing Two new hotels are being launched within walking distance And the new metro station will soon give visitors even better access to the venue www decc qa PB 50 TradeFairs Internation al 4 2018 INTERNATIONAL QATAR Still flourishing and resilient At Doha Exhibition Convention Center trade fairs are benefit ing from the favourable economic situation This trend is likely to continue over the next few years Dass sich Katars Wirtschaft in gutem Zustand befindet hängt viel mit ver stärkter Eigeninitia tive zusammen The fact that Qatar s economy is in such good shape is largely due to self sufficien cy initiatives Ph ot o D EC C
