W ith around 450 delegates from 54 countries the UFI s most impor tant event was very well attended The UFI General Assembly was held immediately before the congress The current UFI president Corrado Peraboni highlighted a number of new initiatives de signed to support the organisation s 780 members from 86 countries The member ship grew by 5 percent in 2018 Moreover there are now over 1 000 trade fairs that bear the coveted UFI seal and are thus acknowl edged to uphold recognised standards It has been a busy year serving our growing global community commented Peraboni in Saint Petersburg Never before has the UFI team organised this many meetings and events for our industry and we have seen a record number of participants A total of over 1 300 delegates attended UFI events around the world In addition the association issued a vari will kick off with the annual Global CEO Summit in London from 30 January to 1 Feb ruary The three regional conferences are scheduled for March Tokyo April Dubai and May Birmingham The next UFI Global Congress will be held from 6 to 9 November in Bangkok While the congress is aimed at members only the conferences and training forums are also open to non members In terms of personnel the association s line up for next year is already settled The UFI pres ident in 2019 will be Craig Newman the CEO of the Johannesburg Expo Centre The trio at the top is completed by incoming president Mary Larkin of Diversified Communications and Andreas Gruchow a member of the managing board of Hanover based Deutsche Messe Gruchow will serve for a further year as outgoing president replacing Corrado Per aboni who is leaving the association for pro fessional reasons www ufi org PB 48 TradeFairs Internation al 4 2018 INTERNATIONAL UFI 2018 2019 50 000 strong community International trade fair experts came together a few weeks ago for the UFI Global Congress in Saint Petersburg They took the opportunity to look both back and forward ety of publications including the results of two new studies which were presented at the congress in Saint Petersburg Together with Explori the UFI investigated global trends with regard to visitor experiences and expectations based on a sample of around 13 000 participants There was also a re search project on women in the trade fair in dustry and the status they have at work The UFI team around the world is working every day to make sure we can serve our global member community of over 50 000 in dustry professionals says Kai Hattendorf the UFI s managing director The fact that more industry leaders and professionals are attending our events using our research and participating in our educational offerings than ever before encourages us to continue on this path affirmes Hattendorf Consequently next year will see a wide variety of initiatives The event calendar for 2019 is full to the point of bursting The year Revenue growth in Budapest Hungexpo the leading Hungariantrade fair company is looking for ward to the coming year with justi fied optimism This is due not least to a ma jor medical event that is returning to Bu dapest in 2019 after an absence of 33 years The annual ERA EDTA Congress of the European Renal Association Euro pean Dialysis and Transplant Association is taking place at Hungexpo in mid June Fol lowing its success this year the Budapest company plans to continue along the same lines Its decision makers are more than satisfied with the way things have been going financially They expect to generate more revenue in 2018 than in the previous 12 months The first six months of the year were very promising A glance at the inter im results confirms that impression From January to June the company generated revenues of 4 5 billion forints around 14 million euros Around half of that came from renting space for trade fairs conven tions and other events At the same time Hungexpo added further events to the cal endar Only recently in October three new trade fairs were held focusing on health and medicine home design and beauty In addition to a wide range of trade fairs and conventions the Budapest trade fair cen tre which is operated by GL events also hosts concerts that attract thousands of people www hungexpo hu UFI in St Petersburg v l Kai Hattendorf Sonia Thomas Mary Larkin Craig Newman Corrado Peraboni und Andreas Gruchow UFI in St Petersburg from left Kai Hattendorf Sonia Thomas Mary Larkin Craig Newman Corrado Peraboni and Andreas Gruchow Ph ot o U FI
