H ungexpo s beginnings are closely linked with Hungary s economic re forms which started in the late 1960s In this context the insight that trade fairs and economic prosperity are con nected played a major role Hence the minis ter for foreign economy established the Hun garian Fair and Exhibition Organisation Bu reau on 1 November 1967 Its legal successor the Hungarian Foreign Trade Office for Fairs and Publicity or Hungexpo for short was already created in January 1968 The inten tion of the founders was clear to concentrate intellectual and material reserves The organ isations merged into the new firm were re cruited from various fields of the economic sector The creation of Hungexpo marked the beginning of a successful company says Hungexpo CEO Gabor Ganczer Of course this 50th anniversary is a good reason to celebrate a bit In June of this year we hosted a Family Day for the col leagues who have worked with us over the past fifty years Gabor Ganczer tells us Over six hundred people attended the big event The guests organised a flash mob for the occasion by forming the number fifty with the group in the area in front of Wel come Hall no I whilst the event was filmed by a drone from above This way the gather ing was also a part of Global Exhibitions Day GED17 hosted by UFI With this choreogra phy the staff members highlighted five decades of Hungexpo s history which is closely connected with that of the exhibition site From the early 1900s exhibitions were originally held in Budapest City Park a mag nificent park at Heroes Square In 1974 the exhibition site moved to the current location in Köbánya Gabor Ganczer recalls This was our company s first major milestone The second milestone was the end of the company s long privatisation process The French Gl events purchased Hungexpo in 2005 One of the important results of the pri vatisation was the construction of Pavilion G which satisfies all modern technical require ments Another result of this was the covered walkways running between the various pavilions which enable visitors to reach their destination without getting wet if it should rain Hence the Hungexpo site was mod ernised in less than three years The third milestone was the establishment of a new branch of business guest event hosting points out Gabor Ganczer In recent years we have conducted numerous large scale in ternational congresses conferences and cor porate events much to the satisfaction of our corporate clients says Hungexpo s CEO with delight Looking back on a history spanning 50 years Hungexpo is now one of the estab lished fair companies of Central Eastern Eu rope Many fairs in Budapest attract visitors from way beyond Hungary One of the most successful events is the hunting and angling exhibition FeHoVa the definitive Central Eastern European exhibition in this field thanks to an attendance of 60 000 people Construma construction fair another inter nationally renowned event attracts around 55 000 visitors The Hungarian spin off of Sirha a regionally significant food industry and HoReCa sector event should also be sin gled out In this context Hungexpo benefits from synergies with the activities of its par ent company GL events in its home base Ly on Other important trade fairs are also being hosted in the agricultural travel and auto motive sectors In response to its increasing popularity as a trade fair and congress location Hung expo is working to meet the growing de mands of its customers Our plans include to expand the site with a number of new pavilions and a congress centre announces Gabor Ganczer Then several events could take place at the same time An investment of this nature would also increase the chances of hosting further major internation al gatherings Hungexpo could host the Hunting World Exhibition in 2021 says Ganczer Should the efforts of the Hungari an government prove to be successful www hungexpo hu PB 58 TradeFairs Internation al 4 2017 INTERNATIONAL HUNGARY Hungexpo turns fifty Hungary s number one trade fair company will be celebrating its 50th anniversary soon Reason enough for a quick look back and into the future Früher wurden die Ausstellungen im Budapester Stadtwäldchen durchgeführt In the past the exhibitions were held in Budapest City Park Ph ot o H un ge xp o
