T he Malaysia Convention Exhibition Bureau MyCEB is again exhibiting at IBTM World 2017 in Barcelona The aim is to present Malaysia as a pre ferred destination for business events and raise its profile with international buyers The destination has been developing well thanks to a variety of initiatives For exam ple the Business Events Roadmap an nounced a number of years ago has made consistent progress At MyCEB they empha sise that there is a clear vision behind this They want the roadmap to be delivering transformational results by 2020 To this end the Malaysia Convention Exhibition Bureau has teamed up with different min istries and government agencies in order to ensure the levers are in place that will bring about the desired outcomes In addition the Business Events Academic Council has been launched The council s mission is to support the roadmap measures in the interests of the MICE industry and emphasise the value of business events Associations also need to be involved since they are potential convention hosts In order to compete internationally it goes without saying that a suitable events in frastructure is essential And next year will see significant infrastructure expansion in Malaysia New event centres are in opera tion above all the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre MITEC The MITEC is considered to be a masterpiece of design a state of the art venue with a floor space of 45 000 square metres Other venues such as the Kuala Lumpur Convention Cen tre or the Putra World Trade Centre are ex panding And a really major new develop ment will be completed in 2021 MyExpo which will have 139 000 square metres of ex hibition space By that time Malaysia s trade fair capacity will have increased by 150 percent The demand is there according to analyses carried out by the UFI the Malaysian trade fair industry will grow by 4 5 percent in the next two years so the ad ditional space will be needed Many established events in Malaysia have grown significantly in recent years And new events are being added all the time with MyCEB referring to this as a business events pipeline The list of new events is a long one A variety of international conven tions are coming for the first time in 2018 in cluding the World Chefs Congress Expo in Kuala Lumpur and the World Cancer Con gress The World Urban Forum is another one These are the kinds of major events the government is seeking to attract in its efforts to promote Malaysia as a destination Among the points in favour of Malaysia as a MICE destination are the widespread use of the English language and the fact that it is con sidered to be one of the world s friendliest countries as the Malaysia Convention Ex hibition Bureau is keen to point out On top of that its emerging economy is thriving and it offers very good value for money All of which makes it an easy decision for interna tional organisers to bring their trade fairs and conventions to Malaysia www myceb com my PB TradeFairs Internation al 4 2017 INTERNATIONAL CONGRESSES Business events pipeline The outlook for the MICE industry in Malaysia is positive Important milestones are coming up in 2018 particularly in terms of new capacity Plenumssitzung Auch im kommen den Jahr finden in Malaysia wieder diverse internatio nale Kongresse statt Plenary session Various international congresses will take place in Malaysia again next year Ph ot o M yC EB
