budget for the pure project costs of the Expo appearance is 8 million euros Schmitz stipu lates five requirements that had to be met by the plans for Germany s appearance in As tana interactivity a focus on the future technology feasibility and adherence to the budget With its footprint of 1 256 square me tres Germany s pavilion was the second largest after Kazakhstan s The appearance was organised by Hamburg Messe und Con gress which was commissioned by the Ger man Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy The German pavilion was filled with life by insglück as the lead agency gtp2 architekten and the exhibition stand con struction company mac The focus was on the five great hopes when it comes to our fu ture sources of energy solar wind hydro ge othermal and biomass explains insglück managing director Detlef Wintzen A combi nation of these sources of energy will reduce our CO2 emissions The dramatic structure of the exhibition was based on the idea of zooming in from a global perspective to a bird s eye view and finally down to individu als and their energy at the local level All the exhibits could be touched and tried out The outsized map in the first exhibition room presented a world in change The visi tors were able to explore new energy options on this map of the future from a bird s eye view Topics such as intelligent networking and energy storage were also presented vividly In the second exhibition room the city of the future the attention was direct ed to the world in which the visitors live In teractive exhibits and current examples from Germany indicated the effects on everyday life of the switch to renewable forms of ener gy from the smart home to transport It is possible to have a positive impact on climate change by adopting an active approach with individuals playing a central role Against the background of this insight visitors to the Ger man pavilion were encouraged to get ac tively involved On entering the pavilion they were given a smart stick with which they were able to collect points and acquire knowledge at the various exhibits With knowledge you can change the world declares Detlef Wintzen explaining the message The ability to collect points motivated the pavilion visitors to en gage with energy issues At the end of their informative visit they were able to cash in their points and activate the energy show This made it clear to everyone how they are able to make a contribution and thus become part of the transition to renewable energy By rounding things off in this way we made a conscious effort to provide a fantastic ex perience explains Wintzen It provided a contrast to the otherwise very didactic ap proach of the German pavilion www ex po2017 deutschland de PB 26 FOCUS TradeFairs Internation al 3 2017 Karte der Zukunft Der Deutsche Pavillon gewann den Gold Award für die beste inhaltliche Umsetzung des Themas Map of the Future The German Pavilion won gold for best interpretation of the Expo theme Ph ot o D eu ts ch er P av ill on H M C
