wan to encourage business people and com panies from Tainan City Pingtung County and Penghu County to take part in both do mestic and international events In 2015 the office also set up the Kaohsi ung MICE Alliance which brings together in dustry representatives government officials and academics and enables them to share their insights and expertise in a range of ar eas at regular meetings They also explore business opportunities together to facilitate the development of MICE tourism in Kaohsi ung A number of major international events have been hosted in recent years including the World Games the Asia Pacific Cities Summit and the AIESEC International Con gress These have done much to enhance the city s reputation and visibility The Global Harbor Cities Forum in 2016 was also a big success bringing together representatives from 49 cities around the world to discuss a range of important issues Events such as this promote international cooperation between city authorities which is important in order to meet the many chal lenges faced by cities all over the world In October Kaohsiung will again be demonstrat ing its ability to stage major international events by hosting the EcoMobility World Fes tival where the focus will be on environmen tally friendly transport A lot has been done to promote the exhibition industry in the city The futuristic Kaohsiung Exhibition Center KEC opened in 2014 for example offering 17 900 square metres of indoor exhibition space and a further 7 200 square metres out doors The Taiwan International Fastener Show and the Taiwan International Boat Show are among the events hosted there The KEC is a central element of Asian s New Bay Area an urban development project that al so features the Kaohsiung Port Terminal the Maritime Cultural Popular Music Center the Kaohsiung Main Public Library and the country s first light rail line which runs along the waterfront www khmice org tw PB 66 TradeFairs Internation al 2 2017 INTERNATIONAL L ife in Kaohsiung Taiwan s most impor tant port which is located on one of the Asia Pacific region s main transport routes is still defined by its sea faring traditions A city of 2 8 million it is current ly building on its traditional strengths as a lo gistics hub by investing in upcoming sectors such as medical technology the digital econ omy and environmental protection technolo gy Efforts are also being made to further de velop MICE tourism To this end the city au thorities established the Meeting and Event Promotion Office four years ago The office provides a consulting service for exhibitions and also works to pool the resources of the public and private sectors In addition it co ordinates activities throughout southern Tai TAIWAN Kaohsiung reinventing itself Taiwan s second largest city is increasingly becoming a thriving centre of the MICE industry with much evidence of new con struction projects and economic transformation Ein großer Erfolg war das Global Harbor Cities Forum das 49 Städte aus aller Welt nach Kaohsiung lockte Attracting representatives from 49 cities world wide to Kaohsiung the Global Harbour Cities Forum was a huge success Ph ot o T ai tr a
