3Social learning a critical factor for the successful implementation of change management projects and associated software training Social media is increasingly permeating our day to day personal and working lives bringing with it an enormous and continuously increasing range of Internet services platforms and networks According to a study conducted by the industry association BITKOM almost half of all German companies use social networks as a channel through which to address their target groups 1 The principal fi elds of application thus include advertising marketing and public relations followed by customer service and sales Only 7 of SME s surveyed use social media for knowledge management yet this is an area that offers considerable potential The key phrase here is social learning which refers to informal self organised and network focused learning supported by social media 2 The study of trends conducted by MMB Learning Delphi in 2012 describes social learning as one of the three most important trends in the context of e learning 3 Nevertheless there is no unifi ed concept of what social learning looks like in practice In order to illustrate the opportunities for application and the advantages of social networks and services in the area of training and development this White Paper addresses the following questions What does social learning mean What does social learning look like within the context of a software project How can social media be used to manage change management processes within the context of a software project Preview
