Messe Stuttgart Sustainability Report Position at July 2017 5 Foreword by the Board of Management In the coming decades we will be faced with great climate changes to which politicians industry and the general public must react Located at the heart of one of the most innovative and most efficient industrial re gions in Europe and at the interface between industry and the general public we believe we have a special responsibility to play a leading international role in the area of sustainability in the trade fair and congress industry As a forward looking trade fair company we therefore have a clear vision for the future to become the most sustainable trade fair venue in Europe This means that we want to comply with our social responsibility and also ensure our long term competi tiveness in a market environment which will be increas ingly characterised by awareness of environmental and sustainability issues in the twenty first century A trade fair can generally be regarded as environ mentally meaningful since as a centralisation point for exhibitors and potential partners and customers it brings together a large number of decision makers locally and therefore makes efficient use of the envi ronmental impacts caused through their arrival and departure In our multiple function as an employer an organiser and a platform for cross industry meetings we also sometimes consider that our mission is to continually make our visitors exhibitors and em ployees more aware of the topic of sustainability The following pages in this Report describe the action we are currently taking in this respect and what plans we have for the future Ulrich Kromer von Baerle Roland Bleinroth CEO President President
