26 As mentioned in the introductory chapter the three pillar model of sustainability comprises both an eco logical dimension and the subareas of economic and social sustainability Whereas the objective of ecolo gical sustainability is to conserve natural resources through increased energy efficiency or lower resource consumption economic sustainability focuses on ensuring long term business success The objective of social sustainability in a company is to maintain human capital in the form of staff satisfaction know how and motivation Economic sustainability In the ten years since the move to the new trade fair centre our turnover and has doubled while our profit has quadrupled This first class development culmina ted in the record year of 2016 in which turnover profit usage intensity hall turnover factor and exhibitor numbers were the highest ever in the 76 year history of the company In addition to continuous staging of leading trade fairs for different industries and the acquisition of new events long term com pany success will prima rily be ensured through expansion of international business Messe Stuttgart is already active in 54 countries with international representa tives and has established subsidiaries in China Tur key and the USA Last year 17 of our own events were staged outside Germany In future we are planning to increase our presence even more on internatio nal growth markets To ensure that our core business can also continue growing in Stuttgart the amount of exhibition space will be increased by 14 600 square metres in the new Paul Horn Hall while new congress and seminar rooms will be available at the extended West Entrance Social sustainability Competent and motivated employees are the most important success factor for Messe Stuttgart Sat isfaction with their work situation is also extremely important for the quality of life of every employee Messe Stuttgart therefore has an obligation to offer its employees excellent working conditions and develop ment opportunities Assistance regarding child care mobile working and flexible part time and flexitime models leave a great deal of leeway in the work life balance Employees are promoted in their personal and professional development by numerous training and advanced training courses Managers have close contact with their staff and include them in plan ning and decision making processes In 2015 Messe Stuttgart 2015 was awar ded the recognised Top Job seal for this com mitment The focal points here were employees satisfaction with their work environment their identification with the company and the quality of management In order to promote our employees health an extensive company sports programme ranging from Social and economic dimension of sustainability Sustainable business with motivated employees
